The Bomb. No, Not Me, A Real One!

Yesterday was insane! I woke up at 5 am, went for a walk around the neighborhood, and then got crackin’ on my morning stuff. I ended up reading a book about researching until like 8:30. I kinda dozed off a bit, but not for long! Mom yelled down the stairs “Kelly, are you up?” Yeah, that kinda woke me up.

Anyway, after I read the research book I did my chores and then started working on another school project. This one involved listening to 15 Michael Card songs and then reading the scripture passages that the songs were based on. It was pretty cool! I also had to write ½ a page for 2 of the songs. I had pretty much finished this by 2:00 or so. At that point I worked on preparing my small group lesson. We’re working through a Lifechangers study on James right now. The passage we studied last night was James 1:1-8.

After I prepared the lesson I went with Dad and Mike on a couple of errands. I drove, of course! I picked up a couple of cases of Mountain Dew, which is a staple of small group. I ended up picking up a couple bags of marshmallows too, just in case…

After we got home I made some tinder for our bonfire with my new knife. Then I finished up preparing my lesson, gathered all my supplies, and loaded up the van. By 5:15, we were on the way to the Clow’s house. Mike and I got to the Clow’s house, unloaded the van, unhitched the trailer, and headed inside. It was about 4 degrees outside! My mom was worried that we would be cold and not come inside, but I knew that the bonfire I had in mind would keep us warm! After talking to Skyler and showing off our knives, Mike and I headed outside to start the fire. I had de-cluttered my animal area earlier this week, and I had found half a bag of aspen shavings. I set those aside when I was cleaning, knowing that we were going to have this bonfire! We laid those shavings down on the bottom of the fire pit, then put my little cardboard box of tinder on top of that, and then a couple of beams from the swing-set on top of that. Mike lit the shavings on fire first, and then he lit the cardboard box full of tinder. Within minutes we had a nice fire going! It was awesome. Through the course of the night we burnt my ramp and our whole swing-set! Joel and Josh both came, which was cool. We did our lesson, ate marshmallows, had a few cans of mountain dew, and had lot’s of fun burning stuff. It was a great time of fellowship and learning! I was also able to talk to the guys about doing a short-term mission trip together sometime. Josh and Mike really want to do a trip, and Joel said he would definitely pray about it. On a less serious note, we had a bit of fun with our fire after the lesson was over. We set off about 40 firecrackers, some in the air, some in the snow, and some embedded in marshmallows. It was pretty awesome. Josh also made me a present. This present was a can of body spray wrapped in firecrackers. It was a pretty sweet bomb! We threw that in and ran back about 20 feet. It made a really awesome explosion! All in all, it was a pretty sweet time!

After I got back to the house I finished up the Michael Card project and then gathered some food for myself. I made a batch of popcorn and a big mug of hot chocolate. Then I grabbed one of my social studies DVD’s about Turkey and hit the couch. It was about 10:30 at this point. I ended up watching that until about 11:15 or so, at which point I dozed off! It’s not really good to be dozing off with a laptop on your lap! I jerked back awake around 11:30, and then I shoved the laptop under the couch. I also had to clear a space on the couch so that I could actually lie down. The couch had a bunch of stuff that I was packing on it. Yep, its official, my family will be moving while I’m in Papua New Guinea! I have to have all of my stuff packed by the time I leave for Texas! Not only that, I have to keep churning out insane school days, keep preparing for Texas, stay physically fit, AND get all of my college applications in! I know, I know, I ‘m repeating myself from my last post, but this next 10 days is going to be insane!

When I got my new phone I opted to try out VZ Navigator for a month. This gives me a GPS and maps on my phone, which is really cool. It also gives me stuff like the weather. Right now it is 9 degrees in Chicago, -5 with the wind chill. In Los Fresnos, where I’ll be in Texas for 2 weeks, it is currently 58 degrees, with a high of 77 for today. I’ll be getting out of a month of winter by going on this trip, which is only one of two super awesome bonuses. The other one is that I won’t have to help move! Hahahaha! I know, it’s bad, but I can’t help emitting an evil chuckle at the thought!
