After we got back I worked on school again for a couple more hours. Finally around 7 it was time to eat Jill’s birthday dinner. She had a chopped salad and some kind of soup, both of which were amazing. I totally stuffed my face. 1 year ago I weighed like 142, and I was trying to hit 150. I still haven’t been able to do it. Just for kicks, I weighed myself right after eating that massive meal. 148. All the biking I do probably doesn’t help my weight-gaining aspirations! After dinner Jill opened her presents. She mostly got clothes and shoes. My favorite was the heeled shoes. I was laughing so hard watching her try to walk in those! It reminded me of the Joy Spartan books. Then she stepped into a pair of sandals that have like inch-thick soles. She took one step and fell flat on her face, not realizing that they were tied together!
The festivities were all over and done by about 8:30. Mike and I were disappointed that we couldn’t go to basketball, so we decided to go coyote-chasing instead. We threw on hoodies and snuck outside. I wrote a big sign that said “Gone Coyote Hunting” and put it on the inside of the garage door. We took off on our bikes and looked for coyotes around the neighborhood. We even went to the end of the neighborhood and did coyote calls, but not even one coyote dared to show its face. Not about to give up, we kept riding around the neighborhood. Then all of a sudden an opossum almost ran into Mike’s bike! The opossum quickly turned around and ran the other way as fast as his tiny legs would go. His legs are so small, it looked so funny watching him run! I stopped right there and just started dying laughing. Then Jen and Connor pulled up and we started talking to them. Jen wanted to know if I could baby-sit tomorrow. Connor wanted to know what we were doing out “so late”. So I told him we were hunting coyotes, but all we could find was an opossum. We circled back to the house and then rode our bikes in front of the house. As we noticed that the nights are getting colder, we discussed how we were going to handle the snow-removal season this year.
Then of course it was back inside and back to the books. I fell asleep reading “The Man With The Bird On His Head” sometime around 11. Considering the fact that I was only awake for like 13 ½ hours today, it wasn’t my most productive day.
