Christmas Part 1

My Christmas week was quite fun! Monday (our family’s Christmas Eve) was spent at the library. Seriously, I spent 11 hours at the library! I was studying, doing college stuff, and a bit of fun stuff too. Then I got home around 10, feeling really tired. Then, all of a sudden, I got my 2nd wind! I made myself some popcorn and hot chocolate and sat down on the couch to watch part of THE TWO TOWERS! Oh yeaaaaah! Then Christmas morning I woke up at like 9 ate breakfast, and then Mike, Chris, and I went and shoveled Kathy Cho’s driveway. We thought we had to shovel a couple of other people out, but they ended up not needing it done. So we found ourselves with a couple hours of free time! We immediately hooked up a sled to the tractor, and then Chris and I hopped in. At one point I jumped off the back of the sled, grabbed the back and, and got pulled on my stomach, all while Chris was trying to get me off the sled! It was awesome! Then at one point the twine that attached the climbing (tow) rope to the sled broke, so I just held on to the rope while I sat on the sled. The problem was, Mike took off way too fast, so I ended up hanging on for dear life while his tractor took me for a ride! It was a blast! THAT is how I got so snowy!

Our Christmas was quite nice, although very different from our other times, in that we only really “celebrated” from like 3-5 pm, cause mom and dad were finishing up shopping/wrapping in the morning, and then Mike and I had to shovel at night. We shoveled like 6 driveways that night.

Wednesday morning, the REAL Christmas Eve, I got to just chill around the house, enjoy my presents and watch some more of The Two Towers. That was cool. Then later in the day we went to Grandma’s house. Eric and I dug out the igloo, which was cold, wet, and AWESOME! We talked and worked for like 2 hours. We had some really good conversations about American Christians, holiness, and Christian living in general. That was really cool. By the time we got done I was soaked, and colder than I have been all year. But it was still tons of fun! We made this igloo at least twice as big as last year’s. I had a bunch of pictures from my Peru trip, so I showed those to a bunch of people. I really enjoyed the time spent with the relatives.

Then came my humbling experience! You see, I really like driving our massive 12 passenger van. It’s big, it’s a challenge, and it’s fun. At one point over the summer I drove it backwards all around our church parking lot, even around the drop-off loop. I really have prided myself on how I am able to maneuver that beast of a van. So last night I went to move the van (for like the 3rd time that day) and I backed into the ditch. It took us like a full hour to get the van out of that ditch! It was pretty crazy. I don’t really have an excuse; it was a mistake, that’s all there is too it! After we finally removed the van from the ditch I told my uncle Todd “Well, that was an adventure!” His reply was “Yep, you’ll be encountering a lot of that sort of thing when you’re in Papua New Guinea!”

We ended up not driving back to our house last night anyway, mostly because of the very thick fog. I’ve been doing a whole bunch of writing, reading, and cleaning this morning, and I think I’m going to be heading over to the church and the library in a bit. I’m really looking forward to making use of Kyle’s Christmas gift: Guarana! Oh yeah!
